I have been developing this piece of software for over ten years. With every database system I've developed there has been a need to manage people, places of business, clients, projects, contact numbers, email addresses, various phone numbers, web addresses and all manner of data relating to the business of business.

Questions you might ask yourself before a meeting, a phone call,
an email or a presentation:

  • What did I say last time we met?
  • When is the next task due?
  • What emails have I sent to them, what did I say?
  • What is their current email?
  • Where are my notes from last meeting?
  • What promised tasks have due dates?
  • What was the last payment received?
  • What's the name of that new guy?
  • When was that last fax sent?

What if you work with a small group and you need to know the following:

  • What did my partner say in their last email/fax/phone call?
  • What tasks and commitments have ben made to the client by others?
  • What is that new cell number that my partner was given?
  • What was their response to the change in delivery date, budget, specifications?

The solution: a database management system (dbms) shared by all

ContactZ is a fully relational custom database system designed for business. It can benefit a single user or multiple users on a network. Built on Filemaker Pro, ContactZ allows a huge step up from those still managing contacts, emails, notes in 3 or more different systems.

Change History

1.03 Sept 1 - added a script on the reg number preference tab to remove all test data from database, a clean start, added Title field to contact tab

1.02 updated the menu page and others with improved graphics, fixed some multiuser elements and functions

1.01 - removed ContactZ text from emails generated from ContactZ

Contactz

  • Works in Windows or OSX
  • Fully cross platform - will run on both systems concurrently
  • Single user includes a runtime version of Filemaker Pro - no additional software
needed - system in not modifiable
  • Contactz can also run in Filemaker Pro as single user - database can be modified
  • Run as Multi User with up to 5 Filemaker clients- one client will host the file for others
  • With Filemaker Server, Contactz can run with 200 + users

Macintosh Requirements

  • Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G3, G4, G5 processor or Intel processor
  • 256MB of RAM
  • CD or DVD drive and hard disk drive
  • PowerPC processor requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther) or 10.4.5 (Tiger) or Intel processor requires Mac OS X 10.4.5

Windows

  • Pentium III 500MHz or higher
  • 256MB of RAM
  • CD or DVD drive and hard disk drive
  • SVGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution video adapter and display
  • Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4), Windows XP Professional Edition (Service Pack 2)

Windows Vista

  • FileMaker has released an updater for FileMaker Pro 8.5 and FileMaker Pro 8.5 Advanced that addresses certain Windows Vista issues.
  • Download the updater
  • We do not recommend the use of any other FileMaker product on Windows Vista. FileMaker Server 8.0 and FileMaker Server 8.0 Advanced will not install. We have not tested any previous versions of FileMaker database for compatibility with Windows Vista.
  • For notification of FileMaker patches and updates, and other important news, please subscribe to FileMaker News
  • We do not intend to release a Windows Vista update for FileMaker Server 8.0 or FileMaker Server 8.0 Advanced. However it is our plan to maintain compatibility with Windows Vista in future FileMaker releases.

Compatibility

  • FileMaker Pro 8.5 databases use the same file format (.fp7) as FileMaker Pro 8 and FileMaker Pro 7, therefore databases can easily be shared between these three versions. Features specific to the newer versions, are only supported in the newer versions (e.g. The new FileMaker Web Viewer feature, introduced with FileMaker Pro 8.5, is only supported by FileMaker Pro 8.5. ) .

Additional requirements (all platforms)

  • Networking: TCP/IP (FileMaker Pro 8.5 can act as a host for up to five concurrent users.* See FileMaker Server 8 for increased capacity.) * Any computer accessing FileMaker Pro files over a network will need to have a licensed installation of versions 7, 8 or 8.5 of FileMaker Pro or FileMaker Pro Advanced.
  • Instant Web Publishing: A host computer with continuous access to the Internet or intranet via TCP/IP (FileMaker Pro 8.5 Advanced can manage up to five concurrent Instant Web Publishing sessions. See FileMaker Server 8 Advanced for increased capacity.)
  • Web browser requirements: To use a database shared with Instant Web Publishing, Windows web users need Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.x or Firefox 1.x on Windows. On the Mac OS, web users need Safari 1.2.x (Mac OS X 10.3), Safari 2.0.x (Mac OS X 10.4) or Firefox 1.x only. On both platforms, some earlier versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer and Safari are blocked. Other Mozilla family browsers are not blocked but are unsupported and users will receive a dialog encouraging them to upgrade to a supported browser. JavaScript must be enabled in the web browser.
